Trois ans après avoir perdu son guidon en Moto2, Romano Fenati a signé un nouveau contrat pour y retourner. Il le fera en tant que pilote Speed Up.
Romano Fenati est de retour en Moto2. L’Italien, qui fêtera ses 26 ans en janvier 2022, disputera la prochaine saison en catégorie intermédiaire. L’annonce de sa signature chez Speed Up, équipe officielle du constructeur de châssis Boscoscuro, est tombée ce samedi, en marge du Grand Prix des Amériques.
Vice-champion du monde Moto3 en 2017, Romano Fenati avait fait un premier saut en Moto2 l’année suivante, avec le Marinelli Snipers Team. Mais son aventure a pris fin après le Grand Prix de Saint-Marin, suite à son comportement envers un concurrent – il lui a pris le frein avant en pleine ligne droite. Un geste qui lui avait valu de perdre son guidon, avant de retourner en Moto3 en 2019.
Depuis, le pilote d’Ascoli Piceno n’a plus fait de faux pas, et fait même partie des exemples à suivre dans la petite catégorie. En témoigne son comportement en qualification, où il fait toujours ses tours seuls quand d’autres attendent constamment une roue, ce qui provoque des situations dangereuses. Récent vainqueur du Grand Prix de Grande-Bretagne, Romano Fenati occupe la quatrième place du classement général, et peut encore prétendre au podium final.
La place qu’il prend chez Speed Up correspond à celle libérée par Jorge Navarro, futur pilote FlexBox HP40. Le deuxième membre de l’équipe italienne n’a pas encore été annoncé, mais ce devrait être le jeune espoir espagnol Fermín Aldeguer.
