Telles furent les premieres lignes écrites par Aleix Espargaro, lundi midi, sitôt confirmée la signature de Maverick Viñales chez Aprilia en 2022.
Pilote dans l’Aprilia Racing Team Gresini depuis 2017, Aleix Espargaro va connaître son sixième coéquipier différent en six ans, après Sam Lowes (2017), Scott Redding (2018), Andrea Iannone (2019), Bradley Smith (2020) et Lorenzo Savadori (2021). Et il n’en a jamais été aussi heureux.
L’arrivée de Maverick Viñales à ses côtés est une excellente nouvelle pour lui, car il aura dans son box un ami avec qui l’ambiance sera idéale, et un top-pilote pour l’aider dans le développement et la quête de podiums d’Aprilia. C’est aussi une récompense. Car en réalité, Aleix Espargaro a été l’un des principaux artisans de la signature du futur ex-pilote Yamaha.

Artisan, aussi, sur le plan personnel. La situation du Catalan chez Yamaha est tendue, et il estime qu’il n’a pas reçu le traitement qu’il méritait. Aleix Espargaro n’a cessé de répéter qu’il aurait tout ce dont il a besoin pour être heureux chez Aprilia, tant pour l’ambiance familiale dans le box qu’au niveau de l’écoute des mécaniciens et du personnel. Et l’en a convaincu.
Aleix Espargaro et Maverick Viñales ensemble, ce ne sera pas une première mais des retrouvailles. Les deux hommes ont en effet déjà porté les mêmes couleurs en 2015, à l’époque où ils roulaient dans le Team Suzuki Ecstar.
