Le team-manager de l’équipe Gresini Racing, Michele Masini, avait le sourire aux lèvres après la première journée de Marc Marquez dans le box, et sur la Ducati, lors du test de Valence.
La saison 2023 a été éprouvante pour tout le monde, mais certains ont déjà hâte d’être à 2024. C’est le cas des troupes de l’équipe Gresini Racing, et on peut les comprendre. Ce mardi, elles ont accueilli dans leur garage un octuple champion du monde, Marc Marquez. Et l’Espagnol a mis peu de temps à rouler vite, sans avoir à forcer plus que le compte sur sa nouvelle Ducati. Déjà à moins de 2 dixièmes de son record avec Honda à Valence, le n°93 a chassé les doutes : il se battra devant l’année prochaine.
Va-t-on viser la victoire avec lui chez Gresini ? « Je mentirais si je disais autre chose », souriait le team-manager, Michele Masini, au moment de faire le point sur le test. M. Marquez étant sous contrat avec Honda jusqu’au 31 décembre 2023, il n’a pas le droit de s’exprimer. Mais son visage heureux au moment d’enlever le casque, et ce qui a été vu en piste, disent tout ce qu’il faut savoir.
« Je ne peux pas en dire beaucoup de la performance de Marc, mais je pense que le chrono peut parler pour lui », a souligné Masini, l’homme le plus recherché du paddock mardi soir. « Je suis content et l’atmosphère est bonne dans le team. On a fait du bon travail. On a fait un travail différent avec Marc et Alex, mais on est contents de finir une année magnifique de la sorte. Nous avons une saison 2024 difficile devant nous, mais c’est un début brillant. »
Pilote d’un team satellite, M. Marquez recevra la modèle 2023 de la Ducati, quand deux équipes – le Ducati Lenovo Team et Prima Pramac Racing – auront la version 2024. Un désavantage ? Peut-être pas en début de saison, car la GP24 aura encore besoin d’un peu de temps pour être réglée. Par la suite, ce sera certainement le cas. « Nous devons tirer le meilleur de ce que nous avons en visant d’être devant, commente Masini. Quand nous avons choisi Ducati, nous l’avons fait parce que nous voulions avoir la meilleure moto possible, la moto championne du monde. »
La Desmosedici GP23 vient justement de remporter le titre avec Francesco Bagnaia. À Valence, beaucoup annonçaient déjà M. Marquez en lice pour lui succéder, et aller chercher une neuvième couronne mondiale. Affaire à suivre…
